A History of the Salvaggio Group

The Family

Charles Salvaggio has been in construction his entire life, beginning as a child, with his father, in demolition and excavation. His love of the work has continued and his sons, Tony and Jerome, often joined him along the way. They have now partnered to form The Salvaggio Group, LLC and together bring over 50 years of experience in construction the homebuilding to the Mid-South. By building from the ground up with integrity and true craftsmanship, The Salvaggio Group offers a home that will last a lifetime. It truly is "our family building for your family".

Our passion for construction starts with our family. Construction has been synonymous with the Salvaggio name for almost 70 years. As a young boy, Charles Salvaggio spent most days after school and during the summer months on heavy equipment or in the dump trucks on the streets of Memphis alongside his father (Tony).

Today, it isn't uncommon to hear a story out in the field of years past in the excavation and demolition business. Charles frequently says, "The only way to truly know how to construct a building; is understanding how to take one apart". Once you understand the physics of how a structure safely disassembles, you can then better understand the structural elements that keep them together. These practices have been instilled in his two sons, and business partners Tony and Jerome Salvaggio.

The Company Commitment

The Salvaggio Group was formed on one basic principle; the owners are the project managers. As with any business, the owners have the most at stake therefore will give the most attention. In a business that requires absolute attention to detail, this principle could not be more relevant. Projects range from the most basic general renovations to complex land development and commercial projects. Regardless of project size or complexity, your lead project manager will always be one of the owners.

The Team

If there was ever an industry that requires a team approach, it is the construction industry. Our philosophy is simple, the owners are in the field everyday. When your employees see the owners leave the office to run a Bobcat, shoot grades for drainage, or meet the dumpster delivery company on a project, it sets a standard. When the subcontractors know the owners are the project managers and are in the field to call the shots, it sets a standard. When the client sees the owner on site catching issues before they become problems, it proves our philosophy.

You're Investment:

For most of us, our biggest investment is our home. Our home is where we live, entertain our friends, and raise our children, it is where our fondest memories are born. Our home is our sanctuary...

Choosing a contractor is multi-faceted. Choosing a contractor because they are capable is only part of the equation. Many factors should enter into the selection process:

Capability- is not the ability to complete a project...

Capability is understanding the client's vision. It is the ability to apply an artistic eye with the industry's most current innovations to create a one of a kind result. Understanding a space and the ability to see through walls to bring a clients vision to reality. It is the confidence to suggest efficient solutions to complex situations.

Communication- is not calling your client only when it is time for a draw...

Communication is a daily task and a tool to success. A contractor that is not completely connected to the client, staff and crew is not capable of bringing a project to its highest potential. The client / contractor relationship must be candid and transparent. Internal communication within the firm is equally important. Many construction companies are a "one man show". Regardless of project size, each will have a lead project manager who is also a partner in the company. As well, two other project managers (owners) are always in tune with project status and work behind the scenes to ensure maximum project efficiency and success.

Competence- is not the ability to convince...

Competence in the construction industry can be illusive. Competence is the knowledge to find solutions to the unforeseen and maintain a budget. It is discovering creative solutions without compromising the vision. It is an educated staff with the most current knowledge of codes and industry standards. It is the confidence to create realistic timelines and budgets. It is having the internal dynamic to make the project an enjoyable experience for the client. It is the ability to bring a project from vision to reality.

Financial Stability- is not the ability to pull a permit...

Financial stability is the ability to let every project stand on its own accord. A construction firm that does not require large down-payments and weekly draws is the most obvious sign of financially stability. In an era where even the largest have failed, it is more important than ever to choose a firm for your project that has a "track record". Your financial stability should not be compromised by a contractor that is not capable of finishing the project.
